UAC Online Event Review: The Coronavirus and Vaccines

UAC online event review: The Coronavirus and Vaccines

Introduction:

Two years of fighting the pandemic have taught us a lot. Over the past two years, everyone’s life has been hugely affected, and fighting COVID has become part of our social and family life. Thanks to the development and use of COVID vaccines and antiviral drugs, life is gradually returning to normal. But just like its close relative the flu, COVID keeps coming back in wave after wave in different countries and regions, with new variants replacing old ones. As variants emerge and the pandemic challenges local public health systems in different ways, scientists and the media have been led by the nose by the virus, racing ahead and now and then falling flat on their faces. Whatever the case, one thing deserves recognition: people across society are doing their best!

Around the world the pandemic is still ongoing, just in different forms and degrees of severity. We all long for a “new normal”, and our thoughts are with loved ones far away. Confucius said that by reviewing the old we learn the new – all the more so since our study and understanding of the coronavirus are still ongoing, and still hot off the press.

At 9 pm Eastern on Saturday, April 16, UAC and AFI jointly hosted an online event, “The Coronavirus and Vaccines”, with immunology and vaccine expert Dr. Ming Tian and Dr. Yiming Yang, chief of cardiology at Rendr Physicians. They shared what we know about the coronavirus and vaccines, deepening our understanding of how the virus has evolved and how vaccines have developed, so that we can better protect ourselves and our families.
